*SECTION 21 OF THE FIREARMS ACTS 1968 - 1997

It is an offence for someone who is prohibited by Section 21 to have a firearm or ammunition in their possession at any time. Section 21 applies to anybody who has been sentenced to imprisonment or to youth custody or detention in a young offenders’ institution for three months or more.

The period for which they are prohibited depends on their length of sentence; if the sentence was longer than three years the prohibition is for life. If the sentence was three months or more but less than three years, the prohibition lasts for five years from the date of their release. It is an offence for a person to transfer, let or hire, give or lend a firearm or ammunition to someone whom he/she knows has reasonable grounds for believing to be prohibited by Section 21.

NB

The Association’s financial year runs April/March and apart from the fixed joining fee only the balance (by month) of the year remaining need be paid. This should be calculated on £3.75/month for UK Individual Members (Overseas £4.25/month, Rest of World £4.75/month), £8.25/month for Family Members and £2.00/month for Juniors. Those joining between January and March will get membership to the end of March of the following year for the annual cost.

Membership cannot be considered as granted until all UKPSA procedures have been successfully completed. Allocation of a membership number or web site password or banking of subscription etc are not proof that membership has been or will be granted. Applicants for membership are deemed to have granted permission for all relevant information to be supplied to the Association by any third party referee.

This form should only be used for joining. If you are ‘re-joining’ after a period of absence please use the renewal form unless your club memberships and other significant details have changed and then this form may be used. The part year payments, however, only apply to first time applicants.

At least one of the following must be supplied with the application form, listed in order of preference:

Copy of current Firearms Certificate
OR

Any referee must state that they agree with the statement: that they do not know of any reason as to why the applicant should not be entrusted with the lawful use of sporting firearms.
